There are a few places that have just been around forever. Sevilla in the West Village has been one of those casual restaurant mainstays in my life for the last 12 years. Having been around since 1941, it has been that to many more people for much longer. As you may have seen from JL’s earlier post with the chorizo, we managed to bring a vegetarian to a restaurant that is anything but.

The decor still an homage to the irish bar that stood in the restaurant’s place prior to its conversion to a spanish restaurant. It is part kitsch, part old style spanish restaurant, part chaos but it is always consistently good.

Coming here, you always start with about 2 pitchers of delicious sangria (whether you are two, three, or four people). You can then delve into the menu that is literally written for the least discerning diner who is either drunk or craves simplicity: veal/scallops/chicken in white sauce/almond sauce/mushroom sauce etc.

Basically choose a meat or fish and a color sauce that you want.

The food is relatively straightforward and plentiful and their paella is always really good. Its a good place to go with friends and drink and eat.
